Weymouth & Portland Lions Club have been congratulated for promoting the ‘best ever’ beach motocross weekend on Weymouth’s golden sands on 10th & 11th October. Crowds flocked to see the action on both days. On Saturday afternoon as well as a 3 man stunt riders display team, local motor engineers Bartlett’s gave beach buggy, or to be technical, all terrain 4 wheel drive rides to the public, there was a juvenile motocross display and a taster for the ‘real thing’ on Sunday afternoon. In addition our Club’s own lion took on ‘The Gorillaman’ for some head to head entertainment for children of all ages!
Sundays racing seemed to draw unprecedented crowds all serviced by a wide variety of stalls ranging from curry wraps to hand made Dorset hot dogs and from charity stalls to the National Trust.
Weymouth & Portland Lions president Les Board says’ This is the club’s biggest event of the year and this year it didn’t disappoint but in terms of the size of the crowds and the variety of entertainment on offer, made possible by a mix of commercial sponsorship and simple good heartedness for example by our friends at Bartlett Motors. We do of course have to thank all the organisations that helped to put this great weekend on ranging from the company that supplied the earth (or in this case sand) moving equipment to the neighbouring clubs e.g. Blackmore Vale who turned up and supported us with manpower’.
