Lions from Zone 1A, Blackmore Vale, Bridport, Dorchester, and Weymouth & Portland were out in force at the Dorset County Show in support of West Dorset Diabetes UK Group. The group had a nurse on hand to offer a free diabetes test and the Lions were very active in persuading members of the public to take up this offer. Over the weekend 179 people were tested.
Lions were also there to raise their profile and introduce the public to ‘Message in a Bottle’ which was a great success. A ‘key and Bottle’ game and a donation bucket produced a profit of £120 which will be given to the Diabetes Group.
Zone Chairman Peter Oswick said “It was good that we were able to engage with a large number of the general public and as result many ‘Message in a Bottle’ were given out. It was particularly pleasing to see the Zone clubs working together so well and I would like to see us doing it again next year”.
