Weymouth & Portland Lions have donated £200 to South West Dorset Talking Newspaper (SWDTN) for new equipment.
SWDTN Spokesperson Eleanor Smith said “South West Dorset Talking Newspaper for the Visually Impaired produces a weekly round up of local news, and also a magazine, for the blind and visually impaired. The charity is totally run by volunteers, there are over 70 of us, divided into groups, so readers only have to read every 6 weeks or so. The Charity is in its’ 30th year this year, and started from very humble beginnings. Originally run from one of the founders lounge, the charity now has its own studio. The paper goes out every week except Christmas, and is a commitment that our volunteers are happy to take part in. We get very appreciative letters and comments from our listeners. The money provided by the Lions club has enabled us to purchase a new copying machine, we now use memory sticks, of course all free to our listeners, we also provide players for them as well. Thanks a lot”!! For further information see www.swdtn.co.uk .
Lion President Mark Lockie said “Giving help to Sight related support groups is a worldwide commitment by Lions so we are only too pleased to be involved, we were able to do this from funds raised at our Christmas Day Harbour Swim, our next event is ‘The Weymouth Wade’ on Easter Sunday which is a family fun event, full detail can be found at www.weymouthlionsclub.co.uk/events“.
