THE MAYOR GOES SHOPPING, BLINDFOLDED, ON SIGHT AWARENESS DAY.

To raise awareness of the public in sight related issues and illnesses, the Lions, as part of World Sight Day, arranged for the Mayor, Councillor Christine James along with Lion Trevor Stratton, to go shopping in Tesco’s on Portland blindfolded. Christine said “It was a strange experience and very unnerving having to totally rely upon others to complete the task for me it has certainly raised my awareness of the problems that blind people face every day”.

Lions worldwide are committed to the eradication of preventable blindness and the improvement of sight in the third world. With that in mind, Lions appeal to the public to hand in their old spectacles at opticians for recycling to such countries and, as an added thought, for those considering taking the plunge at our Christmas Day harbour swim why not raise funds for a sight related charity at the same time.
