Lions President Les Board hands over another refurbished laptop as part of a continuing project by the Lions Club, seen here with Katie Sansom from Westfield Arts College. Lisa Welford, Pupil and Parent Support Worker, said “Katie is absolutely thrilled with her laptop and I am sure she will have hours of fun using the new hardware to enhance her learning at home. Katie has complex educational needs and will benefit greatly from all the scholastic apps and software programs that will now be available to her. Evidence shows that children/adults with SEN learn best using a kinaesthetic approach which incorporates all the senses. Research also suggests that when learning is positive and enjoyed, the connections made in the brain during the learning are reinforced. This in turn strengthens the recall of information. The explosion of new technology has forced educational organisations, such as schools and colleges, to rethink how subjects are now taught. For students like Katie, this means extending the learning environment by using her new laptop in the home, making learning fun!

Thank you. You provide a wonderful service”.

Weymouth & Portland lions are grateful to Trenton Oliver at Cohort Computers Ltd of Icen Way Dorchester for his help in setting up the refurbishment programme.
