Lions Street Busk

Weymouth Town Center - 10am Saturday 18th July 2015 Weymouth & Portland Lions Club will be holding their annual ‘Street Busk’ in Weymouth town centre on Saturday 18th July 2015, from 10:00 to 15:00. The local band ‘Replay’ will be playing throughout the day in aid of the Lions Charity Fund. Most of the money raised by Lions is spent in the local community where there is the most need. Weymouth & Portland Lions Charity Golf Day

The aim of the day is not only to raise funds for our Charity Account but also to enjoy the company of our invited guests and the excellent facilities offered by Weymouth Golf Club. A SPEC-TACULAR EFFORT FROM LIONS CLUBS

Lions throughout the 62 clubs in our District have been collecting used spectacles for many years now and once a year the Lions Club of Petersfield have a 'SpecTrek' where they tour the Lions District collecting them. Pictured here, Lions Club members of Bridport, Dorchester and, Weymouth & Portland hand over 7300 pairs. This year a record 138,148 pairs have been collected. LIONS SUPPORTING GULLY’S PLACE

Members from the Lions clubs of Blackmore Vale, Bridport, Dorchester and Weymouth & Portland (Zone 1A) gathered at Dorset County Hospital to present a cheque for £2000 to Gully’s Place Trust in support of the project and towards the purchase of beds. Gully’s Place Trust provides children’s palliative care across Dorset from diagnosis to end of life.

'SPEC-TACULAR' EFFORT Lions Clubs of the British Isles and Ireland Spectacle Recycling Initiative, launched originally by the Lions Club of Chichester in 1967, today sees nearly a third of a million pairs of used glasses collected, sorted and distributed to clinics and eye camps in communities across Africa, India and eastern Europe in partnership with Medico France. LIONS HELP COMMEMORATE COMMONWEALTH DAY

Lion President Norman Stagles joined the Mayor and civic dignitaries at the 'Flag Raising' ceremony for Commonwealth Day This was one of over 650 Commonwealth Flags raised in 38 Commonwealth Countries as part of the 'Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth' event. For the first time in Maritime history, the 11 ships of P&O and Cunard Line will be raising the Commonwealth flag at various locations as they cruise around the world. Purbeck Motocross Club present the Lions with a very generous cheque for £1,500 at their annual Presentation Evening. Club Chairman, Alf Stearn, said 'We are very pleased to do this from funds generated at the annual Wemouth Beach Race. CHRISTMAS DAY SWIM – BEST EVER

Weymouth & Portland Lions Club Christmas Day swim across the harbour was the best ever in all respects with 278 swimmers raising a record £11,411 for a range of national and local charities and good causes. Most notably SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) by raising £2,200, Mind £959, Southampton Paediatric ICU £565, RNLI £860, Cancer Research UK £ 508, and, Water Aid £490. Some 27 swimmers came from places outside of Dorset from as far afield as Edinburgh, Truro, London and Liverpool to name but a few.
