Lions Annual Street Busk on National Street Busk Day raises £831

National Busking Day was well and truly celebrated this weekend in Weymouth town centre with Weymouth & Portland Lions Club holding their annual Street Busk raising £831 for the Lions Charity Fund. Funds raised by the Lions are mainly spent in the local community and they have recently made a grant of £500 to help fund a Defibrillator which will be placed at Weymouth Pavilion. New President for Weymouth & Portland Lions Club 2015/16

Norman Stagles (L) hands over the chain of office to the new Weymouth & Portland Lions President, Les Board. Les is looking forward to building on the success of the recent Lions fundraiser ‘The Out Loud Festival’ by launching the Lions Street Busk this coming Saturday 18th July. This will be quickly followed more fundraisers, the 50’s & 60’s dance at the Pavilion on 31st July and a Charity Golf Day 7th August at Weymouth Golf Club. Lions Refurbish and Recycle Laptop Computers to be used as Special Needs Learning Aids

Lions President Norman Stagles hands over a refurbished laptop to Jordan who has complex learning needs. Lions were informed that the new hardware will enable Jordan to access specific computer based programs which will enhance the skills needed to learn, for example, memory games. These games support the cognitive processing system which allows children to think. Lions Street Busk

Weymouth Town Center - 10am Saturday 18th July 2015 Weymouth & Portland Lions Club will be holding their annual ‘Street Busk’ in Weymouth town centre on Saturday 18th July 2015, from 10:00 to 15:00. The local band ‘Replay’ will be playing throughout the day in aid of the Lions Charity Fund. Most of the money raised by Lions is spent in the local community where there is the most need. The aim of the day is not only to raise funds for our Charity Account but also to enjoy the company of our invited guests and the excellent facilities offered by Weymouth Golf Club. A SPEC-TACULAR EFFORT FROM LIONS CLUBS

Lions throughout the 62 clubs in our District have been collecting used spectacles for many years now and once a year the Lions Club of Petersfield have a 'SpecTrek' where they tour the Lions District collecting them. Pictured here, Lions Club members of Bridport, Dorchester and, Weymouth & Portland hand over 7300 pairs. This year a record 138,148 pairs have been collected. Members from the Lions clubs of Blackmore Vale, Bridport, Dorchester and Weymouth & Portland (Zone 1A) gathered at Dorset County Hospital to present a cheque for £2000 to Gully’s Place Trust in support of the project and towards the purchase of beds. Gully’s Place Trust provides children’s palliative care across Dorset from diagnosis to end of life.
