A ROARSOME DONATION TO PORTLAND FOOD BANK

Portland residents relying on their local food bank during the coronavirus pandemic are to benefit from a generous £200.00 donation by Weymouth & Portland Lions Club. Although all UK based Lions Clubs are in lock down and are not able to meet on a regular basis or carry out their normal fundraising activities. They were still able to keep Portland food bank topped up with essential supplies with this generous donation.

LIONS DONATE £500 TO M.V.FREEDOM

Lions President Ryan Hope and Kevin the Lion were out and about mingling with volunteers and supporters of M.V. Freedom at the Pavilion Theatre in Weymouth recently, presenting them with a bumper cheque for £500 together with a Lions certificate of appreciation. WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND LIONS CLUB DONATE £200 TOWARDS THE AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRE CRISIS APPEAL.

As the world is gripped by the devastating series of massive bushfires across Australia, Weymouth & Portland Lions Club is doing its bit. All Lions Clubs in the UK are launching an appeal to support the victims of the tragedy and have already donated in excess of A$250,000 in advance. The money will go directly to local Lions Clubs in the affected area in Australia and they can make the decision what is needed, as this may vary in different areas. 100 per cent of the money goes to victims of the disaster. Owing to the ongoing Government restrictions regarding the Coronavirus pandemic. This years harbour swim has been cancelled. The first ever ‘Weymouth Wade’ a great success!

Weymouth beach was buzzing on Easter Sunday when the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club’s new event, the “Weymouth Wade” was launched. Demonia the Sea Witch from Pirates of the Caribbean and Roger the Lion helped Gina Hartley kick things off with a rousing warm-up session. Over 50 waders then took to the sea and splashed their way from the Pavilion, and then back along the sands to the finish. TALKING NEWSPAPER GETS A LITTLE HELP FROM THE LIONS

Weymouth & Portland Lions have donated £200 to South West Dorset Talking Newspaper (SWDTN) for new equipment. SWDTN Spokesperson Eleanor Smith said "South West Dorset Talking Newspaper for the Visually Impaired produces a weekly round up of local news, and also a magazine, for the blind and visually impaired.   The charity is totally run by volunteers, there are over 70 of us, divided into groups, so readers only have to read every 6 weeks or so.  The Charity is in its’ 30th year this year, and started from very humble beginnings.  Originally run from one of the founders lounge, the...
