MOTOCROSS 2021 EVENT A GREAT SUCCESS Once again Weymouth beach was transformed from a flat expanse of award-winning sandy beach into a twisting, turning mound of intimidating humps and jumps for the 2021 Motocross event. Huge crowds turned out to see the riders negotiate the track on a warm and sunny Sunday 10th October. 2021 STREET BUSK A GREAT SUCCESS

The weather was was warm and sunny, the entertainment was just as good and visitors and residents came out in force to support   Weymouth & Portland   Lions’ Annual street Busk. The busk has been an annual event in   Weymouth town centre now since 1994, apart from 2020 when the event was held online. Entertainers included  Replay, Brian  Lincoln, Ed Hintz, Ken Watkins, Anniemac, Tony Lowe, The Dark Descendants, Lets Dance and many more. HANDOVER OF CLUB PRESIDENT & VICE PRESIDENT

HANDOVER – LOBSTER & STEAK Members of Weymouth & Portland Lions were out in force recently at the Chatsworth Hotel on Weymouth Esplanade to celebrate the handover of the Club’s President and    Vice-President positions. After a torrid stop–start 18 months when all club activities including face-to-face meetings were  cancelled, members were keen to meet up again in person for this special evening. DISTRICT GOVERNOR – 105SW

Congratulations to Lion Mark Lockie (MJF) from Weymouth & Portland Lions Club who was voted recently at the digital Convention (via zoom) to become the District Governor for Lions 105SW from 1st July 2021. Mark has been a member of Weymouth and Portland Lions Club since 1987 and during this time he has taken such roles as as Club President and Treasurer as well as Zone Chairman 105D Zone A. CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION

Our certificate of appreciation for this month goes to Adam Kirby, an employee of Stockley Builders, in Dorchester. Adam, a qualified builder and stone mason, worked on the drystone wall feature on the cliff path between Southwell village and Portland Bill during late 2020. Not only did this attract the attention of local residents and visitors, but the eagle eye of local Lion Roger Sutherland. So impressed was Roger with Adam’s voluntary work that he then recommended Adam for a Lions Certificate of Appreciation.

A ROARSOME DONATION TO PORTLAND FOOD BANK

Portland residents relying on their local food bank during the coronavirus pandemic are to benefit from a generous £200.00 donation by Weymouth & Portland Lions Club. Although all UK based Lions Clubs are in lock down and are not able to meet on a regular basis or carry out their normal fundraising activities. They were still able to keep Portland food bank topped up with essential supplies with this generous donation.

LIONS DONATE £500 TO M.V.FREEDOM

Lions President Ryan Hope and Kevin the Lion were out and about mingling with volunteers and supporters of M.V. Freedom at the Pavilion Theatre in Weymouth recently, presenting them with a bumper cheque for £500 together with a Lions certificate of appreciation. Ryan Hope said,   “It’s a pleasure to donate this cheque and this certificate to you all today, not just for the help and assistance you provide for us on our Christmas Day swim, but for all the valuable hard work that you do throughout the year as well”.   M.V. WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND LIONS CLUB DONATE £200 TOWARDS THE AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRE CRISIS APPEAL.

As the world is gripped by the devastating series of massive bushfires across Australia, Weymouth & Portland Lions Club is doing its bit. All Lions Clubs in the UK are launching an appeal to support the victims of the tragedy and have already donated in excess of A$250,000 in advance. The money will go directly to local Lions Clubs in the affected area in Australia and they can make the decision what is needed, as this may vary in different areas. 100 per cent of the money goes to victims of the disaster. CHRISTMAS DAY HARBOUR SWIM – SUNDAY 25th DECEMBER 2022

Every year thousands of people line the harbour at Weymouth to witness this annual Lions event which has become a landmark event for the town. For those brave enough to suffer a Christmas morning dip, the 70-metre-plus distance starts from the Cove on Trinity Road and finishes across the water opposite the Harbour Master’s office on Custom House Quay.
