PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING DAY TESTED OVER 200 LOCAL MEN

Prostate Cancer kills over 11, 500 men per year. However, if identified early survival rates can be much improved. The New-Man Group in Partnership with PCaSO ( Prostate Cancer Support Organisation) and the Lions Club carried out over 200 free PSA blood tests on local men at The Pavilion in the Ocean room. (The New-Man Group is named in honour of their founder, Barry Newman, who was the driving force in setting the group up though terminally ill with the disease).

L-R: Jenny Haines, Lion Bob Underwood (in Lion suit), Derek Pilling, Lions John Davies and Trevor Stratton.

The PSA blood test is not a confirmatory test for Prostate cancer, but is a useful indicator of potential problems if periodically checked at the age of 50 and over.
Weymouth and Portland Lions Club donated £500 in sponsorship for the event and The Lions Club would also like to thank The Pavilion for their help in providing the facilities.
