‘The Good Samaritans’

Lions Clubs from Zone 1A ( Bridport, Blackmore Vale, Dorchester and, Weymouth & Portland ) chose the Samaritans as the recipients of the annual ‘good cause’ donation. Julie from the Samaritans receives a cheque for £2000 from outgoing Zone Chairman, Lion Mark Lockie at a Handover Lunch at the ‘Gamekeeper’ in Charminster.

Julie, the Director of Samaritans of Dorset said, ”Samaritans are extremely grateful for this funding from the Lions. We recognise that there are many other very worthwhile charities in the area to whom the Lions could have donated this money, and we really appreciate the Lions support of our work.

We intend to use the funding on increasing awareness of the support services we offer and how to access them. We hope that in doing so, we will reach more people in our communities, thereby improving social inclusion. It is really important that people who are struggling with life know that they will be listened to and supported emotionally, and that is what Samaritans are there to offer, 24 hours and day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Our free to call support line is 116123 for anyone in need of someone to listen”.
