The “Lions Out Loud Festival”, a music and entertainment event

The Lions Roar onto Weymouth Town Centre!

A new and fantastic major event took place in Weymouth town centre ver the weekend of 27th & 28th June; the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club Out Loud Music Festival, featuring nearly 40 acts over two days. It all happened on a main stage in Debenhams Square and at 4 other performance sites in Weymouth Town Centre. Sponsored by Weymouth BID, there was music and dancing all around the town while people shopped and wandered around enjoying the sunshine. The event was organised by the Weymouth & Portland Lions Club, organisers of the annual Christmas show for senior citizens at the Pavilion, the Christmas day harbour swim and the annual beach Motocross, as well as other local events.

Hundreds of local people and holidaymakers came along and enjoyed amazing performances by fabulous bands, dancers and singers throughout the two days. Weymouth town centre became a centre of music extravaganza for a whole weekend. Someone commented that “the town came to life as a community”, which was good to hear. The grand finale was a 45 minute performance by the leading Michael Jackson tribute in the world, Navi, the “King of Pop” who has performed in front of Michael Jackson himself. Hundreds of people packed the square to watch him and the applause was deafening as he sang many of Michael Jackson favourites and gave an awesome display of Michael’s famous dancing.

Many talented local performers and others from around the south of England appeared for free and this will become a new annual event for the town. Incoming Lions President, Les Board said, “The Lions do what they can to support local good causes and at the same time provide enjoyment for the people of Weymouth and Portland and the many visitors. We aim to make this an annual event and encourage the people to come to Weymouth town centre to enjoy a weekend of entertainment that suits all tastes. The Weymouth and Portland Lions club, part of a million-strong worldwide organisation, use all money raised to support local good causes and we would like to thank everybody who performed, supported and joined in over the weekend.
