Weymouth celebrates it’s 70th Christmas Day Swim

This annual event which has been run by the Lions since the mid 70’s has grown immensely with 330 brave souls taking the plunge this year raising thousands of pounds for their chosen charity.

The first swim took place in 1948 as a bet between a publican and a taxi driver, this year our medal sponsors were a publican and a taxi driver, coincidence?

The weather was kind to us and there was a fantastic atmosphere with as many four or five thousand people believed to have watched the event and more people are getting involved with the fancy dress aspect which was really good to see. Each swim is limited to 50 for safety reasons and there were canoe lifeguards on hand to help if needed.

We were delighted that Chairman of Governors, Lion Peter Burnett, came down to see the event and help with handing out the medals.
