‘Sailability’ gets some ‘Cart-ability’ from the Lions

Weymouth & Portland Lions, as part of their mission to help and care for those less fortunate than themselves, have presented ‘Chesil Sailability’ with two special trolleys for transporting all their special equipment down to the sailing pontoons.

Hugh, one of the volunteers, says ‘When we are running sailing sessions, we have a lot of equipment, e.g. hoisting kit, safety RIB equipment, training marks, etc, to take down to the pontoons for the start of the session and back up to our base again afterwards.  The two trolleys makes this so much easier than carrying it all, and means a smoother start to our sessions, a better and safer experience for the volunteers, and so better sessions for our sailors.  We are very pleased with the support of the Lions for us to get these two trolleys, and many thanks!’

Chesil Sailability provides opportunities for people with disabilities to go sailing, be it for fun, to learn to sail, or to sail competitively.  It was inspired by and set up following the Paralympic sailing in 2012.  It is entirely volunteer run.
