WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND LIONS CLUB WELCOMES IT’S FIRST LADY MEMBER
The Lions inducted Julie Storey as their first lady member into their club at their monthly dinner meeting held at the Rembrandt Hotel. The ceremony was conducted by the Lions District Governor, Ken Staniforth, who said how proud he was to be invited down to Weymouth for this momentous occasion.

Lions enter into the spirit of Carnival
The theme of the float this year was the Greatest Showman" and our entry featured the young dancers from Julie Storey's "Lets Dance" group as well as president Roger and other Lions dressed up as clowns, and with club supporters joining in the fun in various silly costumes. The club's vice president bravely appeared as the bearded lady from the "Showman" movie.

Weymouth and Portland Lions Club held their annual “Busk” in the town centre on Saturday raising over £800 for their charity fund.

EX MAYOR JOINS THE FAMILY OF LIONS
Lions President Roger Hogbin welcomed two new members into the family of Lions, last year’s Mayor of Weymouth & Portland Kevin Brookes and John Kelly. Roger said “ I am delighted to welcome Kevin and John into the club. March For Men – A Fathers Day Event
On Fathers Day, Weymouth and Portland Lions Club held their first “March for Men” walk along Weymouth seafront to raise awareness of prostate cancer. 11,000 men in the UK die each year of the disease and the death rate continues to rise. It is a bigger killer now than breast cancer, yet it fails to attract sufficient attention from either the government or from many men themselves. The Lions decided to help do something about it and are supporting the Prostate Cancer charity in order to help save lives.

LIONS HELP THE SCOUTS GET TO THE 2019 JAMBOREE IN THE USA
Weymouth & Portland Lions have donated £500 to help send four local Scouts to the 2019 Jamboree being held in West Virginia, USA.
A Spokesperson for the four Scouts said "We all feel very privileged to have been selected to represent Weymouth & Portland as part of the UK contingent at this prestigious international event and hope to make you all proud.
